Since Otto Henze founded the PENN Fishing Tackle Company in 1932, PENN has continued to provide some of the best reels a fisher can find. This time they are bringing the bar up further more with the PENN Battle II Spinning Reel. Following the Battle model originally released a while back, the Battle II model is the ideal spinning reel for those wishing to do some inshore fishing.
The PENN Battle II Spinning Reel have the same full Metal Body and HT-100™ drag system you’ve come to trust. By keying PENN’s HT100 Versa-Drag washers into the spool, the Battle II is able to use both sides of each washer to provide higher maximum drags, more range, and smoother start-ups compared to ordinary reels. All HT-100 washers receive PENN’s proprietary grease for longevity. Battle II Reels are engineered to cast further, provide higher drag pressure, and resist corrosion better than ever. Features include 5 sealed stainless steel ball bearings for smooth performance and an Instant Anti-Reverse bearing. Add to that a heavy-duty aluminum bail wire, a Superline spool, and line capacity rings.

What are the upgrades?
The differences in the PENN Battle II spinning reel were aimed at addressing the defficiencies encountered in the original PENN Battle. When releasing the PENN Battle II, PENN released a version that took care of the issues noted in the first series of Battle models with some minor changes. The fact that the PENN Battle was already a high standard reel, the changes needed were minor. Let’s have a look at some of its changes and upgrades.
Improved Corrosion Resistance
In giving it a cool design, PENN took the opportunity to upgrade the spinning reel’s resistance to corrosion. Many of the previous Battle series had corrosion developping when saltwater fishing and PENN recognized it had to be addressed if they wanted a reel that would be competitive for saltwater fishing. The saltwater spray and even the freshwater mishap of reels falling into the water represented a corrosion issue on the previous Battle reels. The Battle II addresses it and its resistance is much better.
Durability with the Sealed Ball Bearings
PENN took the PENN Battle II spinning reel to another level from its ancestor in building a reel that was more durable. The Battle II comes with a sealed stainless steel ball bearings component which prevents water from entering its chamber. Since the previous Battle series had it shielded, users reported issues with water coming in the chamber and causing issues with the ball bearings.
Additional Drag Pressure
Additional drag pressure has been brought in the PENN Battle II spinning reel in order to satisfy fishers to use the both sides of the washers. Modeled after the PENN CONFLICT from last year, the drag pressure was increased keying the trademark HT-100 drag washers. With this improvement to the drag pressure PENN achieved a 20% increase in max drag and it usable curve. This represents an additional option handy to hold in the heat of the moment.
Line Capacity Rings
Knowing your line capacity is extremely important to avoid deceptions when holding a fair size fish in the middle of fight. In this edition of the PENN Battle, PENN provides a line ring capacity which will alert anglers on how much line is left on their reel. This is particularly useful when hooking a large fish or in dead stop situations.
