Finding the Best Ice Fishing Auger

With the winter season fast approaching, fishing on our rivers and lakes will now switch to the good ol’ ice fishing. Ice Fishing can be really enjoyable when you have the right equipment, dress nicely for the occasion and you have proper shelter in the event of inclement weather. Finally, it can be a memorable experience if you are in good company and you get the one that could barely come out of the hole.

When you head out on the frozen lake or river, you will require the right equipment. Missing an important piece of gear once you are in the middle of a lake could make an ice fishing expedition frustrating and lead to potential disaster. One of these essential piece of equipment is definitely an ice auger. Finding the best ice fishing auger doesn’t need to be complicated. That is why we make it simple for you. Ice augers can come in manual mode or in gas mode.

The gas type is of course more expensive but you will save a great amount of time and effort with a gas one. if you plan on doing a lot of ice fishing in the winter, I would recommend you invest a few more dollars and get the gas ice augers. If you are looking at the ones sitting at your local outdoor or hardware shop, you may be in for rude awakening. Personally, the brand that brings quality to ice fishing is the Eskimo brand.

Eskimo has been around for years and they will back their products up with a solid warranty. In other words, with the Eskimo brands you know what you will get. Based out of Wisconsin, where cold weather is king, Eskimo redefines the ice fishing sport with excellent tools and accessories. Let’s have a look at some of their ice augers.

I will provide some insights from some of my friends that did get an Eskimo Ice Auger and as well ratify and consolidate some of the reviews you may find pertinent in your ice auger acquisition.

Eskimo Shark Z51 51.7cc Power Ice Fishing Auger

Eskimo Z51 Ice Fishing Auger

Eskimo Z51cc Ice Fishing Auger

This ice fishing auger comes under three different model numbers. As you know, the more cc you get, the more your price will go up. In general, a power ice fishing auger will range anywhere from $300.00 to $500.00. Is it expensive? It is a bit in my view, but as I mentioned above, the time wasted in drilling a hole manually on hard rock ice, may prove to be a crappy fishing expedition. Energy and time spent in cold weather amplifies the need to abandon quickly and leave the big one under the ice layer you are standing on.

With the Shark Z51, you will get a two-cycle 51.7cc engine that will drill the ice with a clean 8 inches diameter hole. It has a great length for thicker ice at 42 inches. One big feature on this one is that it comes with the blade protectors which is essential to preserve the integrity of your blades. They will stay sharp and without any rust appearance in the long run.

Headed by the viper engine, the Eskimo Shark Z51 weighs 38 lbs. So it has a bit of weight but the power emitted by the engine will make the handling of this beast a short duration. Its power head comes with a lot of features. It has a mitten-grip recoil coupled with a industry-first Hypercoil recoil. The Hypercoil recoil provides the technology that reduces a required pulling force by up to 62%. So you won’t be sweating your heart out when starting your ice auger.

In addition to the Quantum blades mentioned above, you will be glad to see that the Eskimo Shark Z51 has industry-first aluminum handlebars designed with 45 degree rubber-coated grips that allow ideal wrist motion when drilling a hole. The aluminum handle bars are conceived to reduce the weight of the ice fishing auger and concentrate the weight on the engine’s power. The Shark Z51 is quick and easy to control, so you’ll spend less time drilling and more time fishing. Featured is the primer button for quick response starting and the see-through gas tank for easy gas level detection. A muffler guard is there to protect you from hot areas and avoid any burnt marks on your fingers.

Eskimo Z51cc Ice Fishing Auger Features

  • 8 inch diameter auger;
  • 42 inch auger length;
  • 25:1 gear ratio;
  • High profile on/off toggle switch;
  • Aluminum handle bars; and
  • Blade protector included.

The Eskimo Z51 Power Ice Fishing Auger comes with its perfect carrying bag (sold separately but it can be combined when getting it here). The carrying bag is listed at $39.99, which is cheap if you want to preserve your power ice fishing auger for years. It will protect it from snow, rain, slush, debris and humidity. It will also keep your vehicle free of blade scratches and residues from drilling.

We really liked the pocket provided to insert your tools, should you have to perform any unexpected maintenance on the ice auger. Keep in mind and take note that the 10-inch ice auger may be a bit too snug and tight to fit in. The 8-inch diameter will fit nicely.

Eskimo Power Ice Auger Carrying Bag Features

  • Carry straps strategically located to offer a balanced load;
  • Constructed with heavy duty 600D polyester fabric and full length premium YKK, #10 coil style zipper for long life;
  • Universal design fits most power ice augers with up to 10″ auger; and
  • Storage pocket for 2-cycle oil, spark plugs, wrenches and other gear.

The price of the Eskimo Shark Z51 is very affordable for its engine driven power at $369.99USD. A friend of mine got it and is extremely happy. He notes the this HTML class. Value is http://amzn.to/2dT1Ishort time needed in drilling his holes, which allows him to spend more time focusing on fishing. You will easily find other ice auger at a much higher price with less features and power. There are other Eskimo Ice Augers available online, which we identified as top notch ice augers.

The second one we came across is the Eskimo High Compression 40cc Propane 8-inch Quantum Ice Auger.

Eskimo High Compression 40cc Ice Auger

The Eskimo High Compression 40cc ice fishing auger brings the same Eskimo quality to an ice fishing auger. This one comes as a 4-cycle propane powered ice auger. The advantage in this case is that it is a clean burning engine and it comes with low maintenance. The disadvantage resides with the weight. It is a bit heavier and they are harder to handle.

Best ice Fishing Auger - Eskimo HC40

Eskimo HC 40cc

In addition, those propane fuelled type are lightweight and they can lack power. In this case Eskimo took the time to design this ice fishing auger from the ground up. They created an auger that is lightweight while being powerful enough to drill an 8-inch hole in no time. What is particular with this 40cc propane ice auger is that Eskimo created an engine capable to run on a higher octane with its propane fuel capability. The HC40 higher compression ratio creates more power out of a smaller package. In return, the ice angler will enjoy the lightweight and power provided.

Durable, the powerful high compression engine will perform for years when paired with the all-metal, sealed, ball bearing transmission and fast cutting 2 blade Quantum augers. The Eskimo HC 40 Propane Driven Ice Fishing Auger brings a certain reliability in your equipment like many ice augers won’t. Like the Shark Z51, it has a length of 42 inches so thick ice won’t be a problem. It is lighter than the Shark weighing only 27 lbs. The Auto-Prime Fuel system is a nice feature in the Eskimo High-Compression 40cc. The Auto-Prime cuts the need to prime the engine before starts. All you are required to do is flip the switch to ON and start to drill.

Eskimo HC40 Ice Fishing Auger Features:

  • 8 inch diameter auger;
  • 42 inch auger length;
  • High compression 40cc 4-cycle engine;
  • Quick release bottle holder holds 1 lb. propane cylinder; and
  • Auto-Prime Fuel System.

The HC 40 from Eskimo Ice Fishing Auger is well worth the money if you don’t want to have to deal with gas and having to endure the smell of gas in your vehicle. Its price is in the window of quality ice fishing augers at $449.00. You can always check online and see if any discounts are in effect.

Eskimo Hand Auger

If you are ice fishing more on a budget, then you may want to consider a hand auger. A hand auger can still drill a hole in the ice but it will not be power-driven. All you use is your arms and hands. It takes more time, but if your blades are very sharp, a hand ice fishing auger may be the solution for you.

Best Ice Fishing Auger - Eskimo Hand Auger

Eskimo Hand Auger

The big advantage is the cost, of course. You can easily get a hand auger under a $100.00. Again if you are to choose this route, expect you will take a bit more time to get set up and get your fishing holes done. But if you are ice fishing on a budget, Eskimo has a great hand auger available that many customers found outstanding.

In other words, if you are to go the manual way the Eskimo Hand Auger is your best bet. The Eskimo Hand Auger easily cuts through the ice to create clean fishing holes in a snap because of the sharpness of its blades. It has replaceable steel blades which are very easy to change in the event you need to replace them due to dullness or chips. The Eskimo Hand Ice Auger can drill hoes of: 6″, 7″, or 8″ diameter.

The ice fishing auger comes with a cross bolt fastener system which makes it easy to assemble and disassemble the blades. In addition, you will notice the Eskimo Hand Auger has a pommel design which provides a great grip when drilling.  The length of the Eskimo hand auger varies in length. You can get this auger at a adjustable length of 49-58″ length with 6″ cutting diameter, 49-58″ length with 7″ cutting diameter, or 49-58″ length with 8″ cutting diameter.

The Eskimo Hand Auger is fairly light, so it is easy to carry and easy to maneuver. It weighs only 6 lbs. Finally the hand auger comes with a one warranty, should you break a blade or warp them.

Summary

The bottom line in getting an ice fishing auger depends on two important factors. First, how much ice fishing will you do during the winter season. Based on that response, it will determine what type of ice fishing auger you will get. If you plan to go ice fishing less then a dozen time, a hand auger may be more economical. If you plan to go many time over the winter, the Eskimo Shark z51 or the HC40cc may prove to be a life savior.

What is the best fishing line to use?

In all types of fishing, many will have their own preference on what is the best fishing line to use? There are three main types of fishing line anglers will use. They are the braid, the monofilament and finally the fluorocarbon. Personally I use them all depending on the reel I used for a specific fishing adventure. many will use one type (i.e: braid) and stick with it, no matter what.

The Best Fishing Line Resides Applies to the Conditions and Circumstances

If you are fishing bass, as an example, you may be inclined on using braid fishing line. The correct answer really is you can use all three listed above. Let’s have a more detailed look at the three of them and maybe this will change your mind.

Braided Fishing Line

Spider Wire Superline

SpiderWire Super Stealth Braided Fishing Line

The braided fishing line are very durable and easy to manipulate. They have been in existence way before we were born. You can say the braided fishing lines have been existing way before the monofilament and the fluocarbon line existed. As a kid, i used to think of the monfilament fishing line as the tough one that would sustain the big one. In the braided, fishing line, you will quickly notice its strength despite its size in diameters compared to its monofilament counterpart. It is defintely easier to cast and reel, in my opinion. one other great advantage of the braided line is that it doesn’t stretch like the monfilament.

One disadvantage to note is that the braided fishing line may show more in the water than the other two would. in situations where you have low light or or a heavy cover, the braided line would perform nicely.

If you are looking for a quality braided fishing line, the first one that comes to mind and I used myself is the Spiderwire Braided Stealth Superline. Made of fluor polymer and treated with microfibers, the Spiderwire Braided Fishing line is money well invested. The price is very flexible depending on the length/size and pound test, you get.

If you are bass fishing you would be best served using three line sizes. The recommended lines to use would be the 10, 50 and 65-pound test. The Power Pro brand is solid too and is great for tackling catfish.  The Power Pro is thinner than a normal line. In addition, the PowerPro line allows you more bottom time where high tides change drastically, since it is narrower therefore less of a drag is expected.

On a spinning tackle, a heavier size is recommended as well as on the casting gear. I would recommend using the 50 to 65 pound braided fishing line only if you plan on fishing with a single-hook lure like worms and/or jigs. Great for flipping a heavy cover the braided fishing line is bettter than the monofilament fishing line.

Known for its reliability the braided fishing line from Spiderwire or Power pro are sure bets. They are tough, thin, and easy on the retrieve or casting.

Monofilament Fishing Line

berkeley Big game Monofilament Fishing Line

Berkeley Big Game Monofilament Line

The monofilament fishing line has existed for nearly half a century. A very common line used when I was a kid, the monofilament line was the one typically used for bass and walleye fishing in freshwater. Bass anglers loved it for its very castable deployment. A very stealth appearance to the fish, the monofilament line was barely distinguished in low light conditions. It is a great line to use if you plan on setting any floating baits. Keep in mind the monofilament fishing lines tend to stretch more than braid or the fluorocarbon. It can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the way you look at it. Good if you are using it for crankbait or topwater lure and bad if you are expecting to feel the energy being put on the hookset. The monofilament line is well known for its memory curlycues between the reel and the lure when it gets older. These curls will entangle your line at the worst moment, if you are not paying attention.

I use the Berkeley Trilene Big Game Monofilament in all sizes. The Berkeley Mono is very a strong line and its reputation for getting the big bass or walleye is outstanding. Myself, I use the 20lb. test when going after walleyes.  It is a relatively cheap line so it is easy on the wallet and it will last you a long time. It is ideal if you want a line that is light, and that is not highly visible.

The mono fishing line is perfect if you plan on using certain treble-hooked lures such as the diving and lipless crankbaits. In this case the stretch given to you by the monofilament can represent an advantage since it will make it for the baqss or the walleye to “release the lure during the retrieve. Some are also thinking the stretching of the monofilament line can be an advatage in colder temperature where you need to hold the bait a little bit longer before applying the final hook. This is entirely at the discretion of the angler in my view.

Fluorocarbon Fishing Line

Seen as the newest fishing line on the market, the fluocarbon fishing line has been around for the last ten to fifteen years. Fluocarbon is defined as any compound derived by replacing all or some of the hydrogen atoms in hydrocarbons by fluorine atoms. Many of them are used as lubricants, solvents, and coatings. In this case the fluocarbon fishing line was first used as a leader material. Only since the last decade or so, that fluorocarbon fishing lines became soft and flexible enough to cast and be used as a line on spinning and casting reels.

When you talk about the fluocarbon fishing line the first thing that comes to my mind is the ability for the line to appear invisible and it doesn’t really stretch like the mono does. Due to its immense refractive qualities which are very similar to what what the water does, the fluocarbon fishing line is really hard for the fish to see any line. It is also more sensitive and heavy than the monofilament.

The weight of the line leads to its major disadvantage which is that it sinks easily. In addition, the fluocarbon fishing line is not be as abrasion-resistant as monofilament. So if you intent on having floating bait, the fluocarbon line may not be the right choice.

berkeley-vanish-fluoro-carbon-leader-fishing-lineAlthough the fluocarbon is heavier in density, I use the Berkeley Vanish Fluoro Carbon Leader. it is very reliable and cheap, so a great investment. It comes only in the clear color, which will help a little on the invisibility aspect. Myself I use the 25yds. / 40lb. test and it works great. It works great for treble-hooked baits like crankbaits and jerkbaits. I don’t use it as much as the other two, but have used for trouts and also the occasional snapper. I would recommend you keep an eye for any abrasion on the line as i mentioned above about being one of its downfall.

The best knot for the line to hold your lures, I would suggest is the clinch knot. It will hold and you won’t lose any lures when casting.

Finding the best fishing line can be a problem because of so many opinions and choices based on past success utilizing a certain type of fishing line. My recommendation is to do your homework and read blogs and articles such as this one and make your choice. Read the reviews on sites like Amazon where verified buyers can testify with their honesty using a certain brand of fishing line.

Largemouth Bass World Record Back to the USA

Garry Schwartz was not going to be outdone by Manabu Kurita from Japan when he tied Georges W. Perry’s world bass record of 22 pounds 5 ounces. He didn’t get mad, he just decided to go bigger and catch a larger bass. But how do you gat the largemouth bass world record back to the USA?

Schwartz takes bass fishing seriously. Believe us, he has gone as far as risking life and limbs to grow the biggest largemouth bass in the world. Gary Schwarz is no ordinary fisherman. Creator of Tecomate Seed out of Texas, the 64-year-old has revolutionized the approach to growing deer. His approach has now changed and is focus is centered on growing bass, big bass that is. His motivation is simple and well laid out.

Largemouth Bass World Record Motivation

“The largemouth bass is as American as apple pie and baseball,” says Schwarz. “It just doesn’t seem right that the largemouth bass world record is in Japan. So, for the sake of national pride, I sure hope we can produce a fish that will bring the title back to the U.S.

“I learned through my many years of growing deer how important proper nutrition is to the growth of trophy animals. Bass are no different.”

So, Schwarz developed what he calls “food plots for bass.” He built large forage tanks above his trophy bass lake (La Perla) and filled them with freshwater prawns. He seeds these giant shrimp several months apart in multiple stock tanks so he can flush them into his bass lake at different intervals during the year.

Largemouth Bass World Record with Prawns

Schwartz’s secret? Well fed prawns!

“Based on my first couple of years using the prawns, our growth rates are off the charts,” he says. Indeed, since 2008, several dozen double-digit fish have been caught out of La Perla Lake, with the biggest reaching nearly 14 pounds.

“Although La Perla is awesome, I decided that if I was serious about growing a world record, I needed to create a lake specifically for that goal.” So Schwarz spent a couple of years and countless dollars on his dream lake—Jalisco—and it almost cost him his life. While on an excavator digging part of the lake, Schwarz fell and his head hit on the steel track of the machine. It left a gaping head wound.

“I stuck my finger in the hole and felt my own brain. I knew that was not good.” Although the accident required months of recovery, recover he did—without loss of focus on his goal.

great bass fishing

Getting the right genetic was no easy tasks for Gary Schwarz, he has to enter into a contract with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The aim was to stock the lake with fingerlings from the state’s ShareLunker program. In that lake all the fingerlings had a mother  that weighed 13 pounds or more. The tip is the contract states no one can fish the lake for 15 years.

“I know it sounds crazy. I might have put a million dollars into building this lake, and I may not get to fish it before I die. But I want to see if my forage pond concept will work.

“I want to bring the record back to the U.S. very badly, but I am realistic. You take one giant step forward and then two small steps back. That said, we recently electro-shocked Jalisco and had incredible results. The contract fish are now 20 months old, and we had several weigh in at 4 pounds. That sort of growth is unheard of.

“If La Perla and Jalisco can play a part in bringing the record back to the U.S., it would do my heart proud. And I don’t mean that the fish will be caught out of one of these lakes. Hopefully the research we are doing on the importance of genetics and forage will help lake managers improve fisheries all across the U.S.”

Jalisco Lake

Gary Schwarz’ Jalisco Lake (above) measures 60 acres at full pool and is designed to push the limits of largemouth bass management. It is stocked with a specialized strain of pure Florida large mouths, and its fish subsist on natural forage supplemented by prawns. The lake’s structure includes:

1.  Roadbeds

Two submerged roadbeds provide bass with cover and anglers with targets.

2. Brush piles

Artificially created brush piles and areas with submerged timber give prey species cover to hide in and largemouths places to attack from.

3. Old shoreline

Jalisco’s original shoreline has been flooded, but its rocky, riprap-like character remains. This, too, provides fish with cover.

4. Feeders

Schwarz has added at least 30 feeders in various spots around the lake in order to keep bluegills and shad fat and happy.

5. Islands
Numerous islands dot the lake. Resulting cover, fingers, and peninsulas give bass more hiding places.

Forage ponds
Three large prawn-rearing ponds are located adjacent to Jalisco. The prawns, seeded in the larval stage, can grow to more than 12 inches in overall body length.  Once the prawns have matured, they are regularly flushed into the main body of the lake.

Bass Fishing Reels and Baits 101

Bass Fishing - Large Mouth TypeMany ask themselves this question. What kind of reel should a beginner like me use for bass fishing?

People from virtually every demographic appreciate the sport of fishing. Regardless of your location, there is a good chance that a prime fishing hole is nearby. Take the time to read the following article to learn about some great fishing tips that you can use on your next fishing trip. Hopefully, there will be something that will make a difference for you.

General Fishing Tips

Remove the tail from your bait before putting it on the hook if you’re fishing with shad. This will help reduce tangles from the bait spinning. Fish will be more attracted to the scent of the cut bait.

When it comes to fishing, even clothing can affect success. This is why fishermen should opt for clothing that blends in well with the environment. Fish don’t have excellent eye sight but they are not colorblind, so they can easily be spooked if you wear bright colors or anything else that is particularly noticeable. For best results, wear earth tones.

Sinkers are an excellent choice when fishing in the winter. Sinkers add weight to the line which allow your bait to reach lower depths where fish dwell this time of year. When using sinkers, their weight and quantity will depend upon the depth that you would like your bait at.

Bass Fishing 101

If you are new to fishing, the best way to learn is by trying bass fishing. Bass are known for being easier to catch because they are likely to go for the bait and are easier to handle. Even as you progress as an accomplished fisherman, bass fishing still offers its share of fun and challenge because of the good fight a bass can put up when it’s caught.

When you are starting bass fishing, learn as much as you can about the bass, by using the resources available to you. Take some time to research some tips before you try your hand at it. There is a wealth of information available that will help you with learning how to fish properly before you jump in. After you utilize these tips, you will be well equipped to landing some giant fish.

Bass Fishing – Knowing the Bass

First, a beginner need to know what exactly is a bass. It is good to know what you are fishing in details because you will get to know what the bass eats, stay underwater (shallow / deep), what attracts the bass and how it behaves. Also you should know when the best time of the year bass fishing is taking place, when they are laying their eggs. Knowing the types of bass is good info to know.

Bass is a name shared by many different species of fish. The term encompasses both freshwater and marine species, all belonging to the large order Perciforms, or perch-like fishes, and the word bass comes from Middle English bars, meaning “perch”.

Types of Bass

  • The black basses, such as the Choctaw bass (M. haiaka), Guadalupe bass (M. treculii), largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides), smallmouth bass (M. dolomieu), and spotted bass (M. punctulatus), belong to the sunfish family, Centrarchidae.
  • The temperate basses, such as the European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax), striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and white bass (M. chrysops), belong to the family Moronidae.
  • The Asian seabasses, such as the Japanese seabass (Lateolabrax japonicus) and Blackfin seabass (Lateolabrax latus), belong to the family Lateolabracidae.

Lures and Baits

Bluenet 129pcs-Kit

Bluenet 129 Pieces Kit for Bass Fishing

There are many lures and baits that can be used for bass fishing. One of the great kit out there is the 6 Fishing Hard Spinner Lure Spinnerbait Pike Bass under the 18g/0.63oz weight. It is offered by Free Fisher and is it is relatively cheap for 6 lures. The other one is the 129 pieces kit by Bluenet.

Lots of bass fishermen prefer to fish with light colored grubs. Grubs in white, smoke-colored, chartreuse and yellow are very effective. Another popular choice is a more translucent grub with reflective metal chips inside of it. These grubs reflect light and can draw more fish in. If nothing seems to be biting, choose a grub which is the same color as the water.

Spinner baits are great entry level lures that anyone can use. This type of lure is ideal for fishermen who regularly fish in shallow, cloudy water or shaded areas. The fish most associated with spinner bait is the bass, but crappie will bite on it too.

Fishing is a wonderful sport that will reward you for as much, or as little, effort as you care to put into it. Regardless of whether you view it as a calming hobby or serious sport, there is much to be learned about fishing. Learn all that you can, and most importantly, enjoy yourself!

Success With Valuable Fishing Tips

Fishing is easily one of this country’s greatest tradition, and all you really need is a hook and some baits. You can greatly improve your success in fishing by acquiring some valuable knowledge and the occasional tips from friends. In this post, we will look at some valuable fishing tips you can incorporate when you head out on the shores or on the water to get some success in fishing adventures.

Some Valuable Fishing Tips to Consider

Sound can travel great distances underwater and being on the lake applies the same as if you are at sea. You should always be quiet and move slowly in areas known to be abundant of fish. This means maneuvering your boat slowly on low speed with no throttle or simply anchor it once set. if you are fly fishing, always think of moving very slowly. Fish gets easily scared when they hear unusual noises or detect water disturbance. Always take the time to move through the water without disrupting the habitat.

Once you have identified a promising area to catch fish, you should cast your line upstream of that particular area. By casting upstream from the location you want to fish, your bait will float down past the fish and get its attention. This approach will look natural and will increase the attraction of the fish towards your bait. Colorful and shiny with some movement will also get its attention in no time. This technique is especially effective if the location of the fish is beneath an object that is in the way.

Types of bait to use

Other valuable fishing tips are the right bait for the right fish. Some anglers will always have their favorite bait from past success and that is where communicating with other fishermen can be valuable since they will tell you what will work for what. Live bait is the best choice for many types of fishing expeditions. A reminder that fish will be most attracted to insects that live in the area. As well, fish will more likely bite a bait that you can also catch at the water’s banks.

Fishers will go through several lures in a fishing season. If this is your preferred method of bait, you will need a lure with a lot of natural movements a fish does and a lure capable to reflect sunlight very well. many lures will also great colors that reflect very well underwater. these colors attract the attention of a fish from a great distance underwater. Lures such as the Rapala Rattling 05 Fishing Lures and the Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad 03 Fishing Lures are all great lures and very affordable. You will want to consider lures as a set too if you are on a budget. One great set for Fly Fishing is the 6 Fishing Hard Spinner Lure Spinnerbait Pike Bass 18g/0.63oz T11 and the 5 Hollow Body Topwater Frogs Fishing Lures Baits with Free Tackle Box 2 1/5 Inch 3/8 Oz.

If you aren’t having success with one color of your artificial bait, try changing to a different color. If you haven’t had any luck and have been out fishing for awhile, then you might find this tip quite beneficial. Fish are attracted by baits that are brighter or a different color than they usually encounter, which could result in a catch.

Bass are known to like grubs. These types of bait will help you catch big, tasty fish as well. You can catch both largemouth and smallmouth bass using these lures. If you’re in a highland reservoir, they’re perfect.

Other accessories to bring

It will make your life much easier, especially if you are in a remote area. Before you embark on a fishing trip, you should always pack a scale. You might get lucky and catch some big game, so bring a scale so you can weigh your catch. If you don’t have one, we certainly recommend the Mango Spot LCD Electronic Balance Digital Fishing Hook Hanging Scale 50kg, 10g by Mango Spot. Bobbers can be useful too when fishing because it will give you the indication very rapidly if a bite has taken place underwater. You can get a pack of six or ten easily. Take a look at the values we have here!

Finally, ensure you have a set of long nose plyers to take the lure out of the fish’s mouth. They are useful and save time. Remember, every fish you catch is not necessarily meant to stay caught. It is a common practice to release small fish, as well as more fish than you need. Controlling the amount you take from a source will help ensure fish for later seasons.

Setting your line

Anyone fishing should learn how to properly set the hook. Setting the hook up fast is key when fishing, especially when fishing with lures. You don’t want to put in all the effort and get a bite, only to loose the fish because you didn’t set the hook well.

If you fish on a bank, it is important to be wary of starting fires. Many people smoke while they are fishing, and you must ensure that the embers or your lighter don’t start a fire. The immediate area of the bank is of course wet. The foliage near the bank is quite flammable however.

Fishing can be an incredibly rewarding hobby and sport. A little experience and knowledge can really improve your next fishing outing. Use these valuable fishing tips as well as some of your own, and you will have many fishing tales to pass on!
